Noskowski’s songs were valued during his life, they were the fruit of their time and after his death, they slowly lost their popularity and appeal. Only few of them – Stach, Christmas Carole, The Lark Sings or Sadly – solidified themselves in the repertoires of singers. The songs shared the composer’s fate, being slowly forgotten due to the accomplishments of the Young Poland and other contemporary composers. Noskowski, being one of the most notable of Polish composers of his time, remains unheard during today’s concerts. Many of his works still require research and study, nor have they been performed. This also concerns his songs, of which only a selected number were published (mostly during the composer’s life), some of them remain in manuscripts, and some are considered lost. We can only hope that the presented songs, alongside the contemporary recordings of the symphonic, chamber and piano repertoire, will incite artists, music-lovers and researchers to take a much greater interest in Noskowski.
