Verdi Ouvertures Dopéras Transcriptions Pour Orgue Cognazzo - Eleorg18056 - Elegia

En février 2014 ClicMag n° 13 proposait « Verdi the organist », album enregistré par Liuwe Tamminga et consacré à des transcriptions pour orgue d’airs d’opéras. En février 2015 (ClicMag n° 24) le même organiste offrait un « Puccini the organist ». Voici dans la même veine un succulent troisième CD. L’organiste Roberto Cognazzo propose 8 ouvertures échelonnées sur trente ans de carrière de Verdi, d’Oberto (1839) à La Force du destin (1869). Les opéras choisis, les orgues sélectionnés (cinq différents, facture Italie du nord 1853-1872), les registrations soigneusement étudiées, une très belle prise de son, et surtout l’intelligence et la congruence des transcriptions de Roberto Cognazzo, tout cela combiné met en valeur un genre très prisé en Italie pendant tout le XIXème siècle lorsque l’opéra investit les tribunes d’orgue dans les églises, jusqu’à la réforme Cécilienne de 1903 mettant fin pour un temps à cet excès de profanité. Le résultat est un album inventif très « goûtu », à déguster à petites doses pour en garder toute la saveur, et que n’aurait sans doute pas renié Verdi, organiste lui-même dans sa jeunesse. After the great success of the first CD, Roberto Cognazzo comes back to this repertoire with a program most of all based on a series of works composed by Verdi in the first phase of his career, the so-called anni di galera. These are the pieces that have more interest, because allow to listen to titles nowadays barely performed such as Oberto Conte di San Bonifacio and Il finto Stanislao and because they lead us to the discovery of this composer, who later would have written masterpieces. During the XIX century it was a habit to write the most famous arias and choirs for organ or piano, a praxis that allowed them to reach a great popularity even among those that did not attend theatres. These works are performed by Cognazzo with verve, that it is emphasized by the rich timbre of the four great symphonic organs.
