The song cycle "Regarding a line" is based on a single melody. All the compositions come out of its sequence of notes. It moves subtly through the whole CD and changes its function from tune to tune. That the melody is a twelve-tone row is barely noticeable. It appears as a baroque miniature, builds a bridge to Duke Ellington, slips into a medieval dance piece, and meets up with contemporary jazz. In this appealing field of musical tension, this quartet of renowned musicians creates new nexuses and transmits sense and soul to the various approaches.
