The Varslavia Orthodox Music Ensemble
Milosz Bogic, direction

The idea of the album is to show the musical and spiritual synthesis of two Slavic nations in the field of sacred music. The work of Polish and Serbian composers, both from a few centuries ago and written in recent years, has a clear common denominator, the key element of which turns out to be Christian, Catholic and Orthodox roots. The album contains compositions by outstanding representatives of Polish and Serbian choral music of the last three centuries, showing both similarities and differences in the musical heritage of both countries. The works by Serbian composers show the power of a culture that, despite several hundred years of the Ottoman occupation, survived along with the native language and religion. The Orthodox Church Music Ensemble Varslavia, in its outstanding interpretations under the baton of the young Serbian-Polish conductor Milosz Bogic, shows the full potential of a cappella choral music. The music shimmers with colours, the mood of seriousness and focus interweaves with joyful polyphonic fragments, gentle romantic and neo-romantic harmonies collide with the harshness of medieval and Byzantine hymns.
