Exile, migration, expulsion and extinction, all of that is part of the 20th-century history of Europe. Music in spite of all – that is the principle common to our whole musical programme. Nitzan Bartana was born in Jerusalem in 1989. She was given her first violin lessons at the age of five. With effect from 2018, Nitzan Bartana is deputy leader of the Basel Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim since 2008. The Israeli clarinettist Dana Barak has, alongside the classical repertoire, specialized in the performance practice of modern music; she plays with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and the Ensemble Phoenix in Basel. The Israeli pianist Roglit Ishay makes guest appearances as soloist, is a member of the Israel Piano Trio and was a member of the Dresden Piano Trio.
