The fascination of the project "XL target" is, according to Dave Doran, the creativity allowed to flow during his live performances. With "XL target", he moves away from classic drumming by using samples to create a rhythm group which gives him more freedom in his solos. To achieve an appropriate, contemporary drum sound, KJ Dave Doran experimented with a variety of drum elements. For this purpose, he put together a special drum set using parts by four different manufacturers. No drum used in this set exceeds 12 inches, except the one 18-inch bassdrum. To create the sound for his live-samples, he used the Software Cubase. These samples are used dynamically and altered with electronic effects. KJ Dave Doran has also combined his drumtracks experimentally with Jungle and Ambient Jazz. The result of the combination of these samples is an urban, groovy Future Music that shows parallels to Triphop and Breakbeat. The line between different genres has been dissolved with the result of compelling tracks and fast, driving beats. The compositions are based around the drumtracks and samples. Dave Doran recorded his CD "NuBtz ReMix" together with Christy Doran, whose bizarre and experimental guitarplay adds perfectly to the new sound of "XL target". The album was recorded at the "Garage" and mixed at Heinz Affolter's Lakeside Studio. The album offers the full monty of energy and rhythm - and surely the coolest live sound currently found in the MoveToGroove scene.
