“Since its founding on the initiative of the drummer Dejan Terzic in November 1994, the Sunday Night Orchestra has gained the reputation far beyond the borders of Nuremberg and Germany of being an excellent jazz orchestra with extraordinary soloists. The members of the band come from all over Germany and have already gained renown with their own individual projects. The orchestra has worked with Bob Brookmeyer’s New Art Orchestra, the big bands from Peter Herbolzheimer, Bobby Burgess, Al Porcino, with the NDR and WDR Big Band and the Vienna Art Orchestra, among others. The American composer and arranger Ed Partyka took over the musical direction in 2001. International stars have often been guests with the Sunday Night Orchestra, for example, Benny Bailey, Dusko Goykovich, Al Porcino, Conte Candoli and – especially remarkable - Maria Schneider when the Big Band played only her compositions on a tour under her conducting. The Sunday Night Orchestra is presented the fruits of more than two years of collaboration with Ed Partyka on “Music without Words”. The result is a clear statement for “big band sound” as it is unfortunately only seldom heard - and almost not at all in Germany: rooted in the almost one-hundred years of Big Band tradition, but with modern and exciting songs and arrangements, which never given the impression of being worn out. The Sunday Night Orchestra has been in existence for almost 10 years - and it still works fresh!
