The instrumental combination of SKYKPTN'S 28 is rather unusual, with its jazz band mixed with half of a string quartet without the usually dominant violins...Yet another crossover project like "Classic meets..." or "Jazz meets..."?The English bassist Barry Guy made this appropriate comment in a CD's booklet in 2005: "Unfortunately the expression [crossover] is mostly applied to very shallow representations where one musical genre is only used to gussy up the other and make it fancier (...)".Even if it's easy to recognise from witch backgrounds the musicians are coming, SKYKPTN'S 28 succeed to play a music that creates a unity beyond the differences. More than a flat encounter, we hear moments of pure beauty carried by heady energy.
