It's no accident that Simon Kanzler's second album 'Dialogue' has the same title as an album from his instrumental counterpartBobby Hutcherson, released exactly fifty years to the date beforehand. As with Bobby Hutcherson, the title 'Dialogue' refers toa mediation between conflicting and often mutually exclusive principles, which are, despite this, interdependent even on amacro level. There is a fascinating interplay here between stasis and dynamics, emotion and abstraction, consolidation andseparation, departure and adhesion, and form and color. Kanzler's original Talking Hands members, bassist Igor Spallati and drummer Tilo Weber, are joined on this album bysaxophonist Otis Sandsjö, and trombonist Geoffroy De Masure. Kanzler stakes out a broad territory, on which he cultivates notonly the modern jazz tradition, but also minimalism, new music, electronic music, and ambient music. Simon Kanzler has onlyneeded two albums to liberate himself from all stylistic constraints and rely solely on his own musical language.
