 Le Pierrot lunaire marque, on le sait, en 1912, l’instauration du Sprechgesang, où la voix n’est ni parlée ni chantée mais se module sur les hauteurs de son indiquées par les instruments en se fondant sur le rythme, ce qui lui confère la plasticité voulue pour l’expression de ce qui est la dérisoire vision du monde qu’a Schœnberg, et sa métaphysique. Stravinski saluait cette technique comme « le plexus solaire et l’esprit de la musique du début du XXème siècle. » Ce disque le couple opportunément avec le bref opéra de Franco Evangelisti, écrit en 1962-1963. L’ensemble Prometeo de Marco Angius les sert tous deux avec conviction et sensibilité, tandis que la voix tantôt caustique, tantôt blessée de la soprano-récitante Livia Rado détaille chacun des textes, particulièrement expressive dans la Valse de Chopin ou dans la Barcarolle (Heimfahrt). « Cris et crachotements », pourrait s’intituler Die Schachtel (« la Boîte »), action scénique pour mime, projections et ensemble de chambristes de Franco Evangelisti, mais aussi piaulements, miaulements sur fond de pecussions fiévreuses, de flûtes discordantes et de bruitages incongrus… À coup sûr un argument pour ceux qui déplorent que la fin du XXème siècle ait tué la musique. (Danielle Porte) “The three Cantiche of the Pierrot Lunaire are offered as a series of musical psychodramas linked or justaxposed in a pattern of twenty-one microfroms. The esoteric connotation of the individual movements (designedly seven for each cycle) reveals within itself markedly aphoristic structures, to the point that each piece shows its fragmentary essence, close to an incomplete or open draft. The images evoked in the poems (taken from the collection of the same name by Giraud/Hartleben) find a new life in this succesfull work by Schönberg and particularly in the unprecedented relationship between voice and ensemble, a relationship which tends to a radical reversal of the vocal presence, which is deprived of song and its melodic-harmonic links through the Sprechgesang [...]. Everything, in Die Schachtel, is distributed on the basis of the claustrophobic concept of the boxing of sounds, gestures, behaviours, images, according to the mimic-visual organisation of Franco Nonnis. The work is made up of eight joint “structures”, each lasting few minutes. We must make clear that in Evangelisti the concept of structure has nothing to do with the corresponding serial term but rather constitutes one of the possible ways of organising the material, a particular container of musical forms in the primary stage. In Evangelisti the minimal conception of sound experiences is accompanied by a compositional vision characterised by burning and immediate gestures, capable of holding within themselves every margin of predictability, to make themselves overflowing material, distorted sob or sarcastic phoneme [...]”.
