The pianist Roman Tulei not only writes wonderfully exciting pieces: As an imaginative and elegant improvisor he is able to expand and deepen the composed moods. In this context he has an impressive, finely nuanced culture of touch and free flowing, extremely style of playing. In the bass player Lorenz Beyeler and rummer Tobias Friedli, Roman Tulei has found two congenial partners: supreme side men who do not behave like narcissists but instead devote themselves fully and totally to music and yet are also able to give it their own individual emphasis. So in his trio Tulei is no more but also no less than a primus inter pares. Thansk to the pleasing mixture of elegance and urgency, the broadly-based emotive impact of this trio's music can be attributed to the domain of pure poetry.
