MUSIC FOR ASTRONAUTS Since 1985 Roberto Domeniconi uses sounds from nature and space. This music came out of one of different projects using radioastronomical sounds such as Pulsars (Vela-Pulsar and others, recorded by the Max-Planck-Institute for Radioastronomy in Bonn) and teletransmission-sounds like Morse and other kinds (for example teletransmissions using the moon as a reflector to be able to reach the opposite part of the globe). While the sounds are not used in the music anymore they are still present in the sounds the musicians produce. Everything is played completely acoustic, no amplification of any kind is used (unless the size of the room really needs it). As in space everything comes out of one germ, the musical themes are based on a four-note motive (Vierklang) building about a dozen variations on a theme. These themes have the goal to produce spaces, which we can inhabit, and not to fill them. Collective Free Improvisation is the most important element in this music, following the laws of gravitation.
