Reynaldo Hahn Mélodies Pour Voix Et Piano Rudnicka Wrona - Dux2128 - Dux - Classical

Cet album rassemble une belle anthologie des mélodies de Reynaldo Hahn : l'intégralité du cycle des "Chansons grises", sur des poèmes de Verlaine, que le compositeur de 18 ans, en 1892, chanta en s'accompagnant au piano chez Alphonse Daudet ; et de larges extraits de deux autres cycles de vingt mélodies publiées respectivement en 1896 et 1922, dont le célèbre "A Chloris", d'après un poème de Théophile de Viau. Autant de petits bijoux. Programme alléchant, donc. La voix de la soprano polonaise Marzanna Rudnicka est belle ; sa ligne de chant est sensible et subtile, malgré un vibrato un peu trop présent (mais il semble que ce soit la règle dans ce répertoire). L'accompagnement au piano de Kamil Wrona est également plaisant. Mais la mélodie française est un exercice exigeant, redoutable pour les voix dont le français n'est pas la langue maternelle. The songs featured on this album come from various periods in the creative life of Reynaldo Hahn, a Venezuelan-born composer who spent most of his life in Paris, helping to shape the artistic bohemian landscape at the turn of the century. Aside from the cycle Chansons grises, the other works on the album do not form a cohesive whole. Rather, they represent a subjective selection of the most beautiful miniatures that best showcase the composer’s talent and versatility. Hahn did not shy away from pastiche and paraphrase, and his distinctive style blends Romantic and Impressionist elements—capturing mood and fleeting impressions. The songs presented here contain little of the decadent atmosphere of fin-de-siècle Paris; they are more of a tribute to the singular spirit of the Belle Époque, with all its hallmarks and its thenpopular theme of love. The performers offer a refined display of chamber interplay and a deep sensitivity to the poetic texts, which the music closely follows. Many of the songs were recorded in Poland for the first time, making this album doubly special.
