Schmölzer´s pieces create images in one´s mind that not only stimulate but also compel one to reflection and memory. Just likea wave that returns over and over and yet never has the same form, Reinhold Schmölzer´s move on further. Although he iscounted among the young composers, he has found his own style. He is - and this has been confirmed not only by theinternational awards and composition commissions but also by international music journalists - a master at constructingcomplex themes, which surprises rhythmically and also are convincing in the sheer endless melodic structures underpinnedwith refined harmonies. He has managed to expand on the pathways that mentors like Ed Partyka, John Hollenbeck and DavidFriedman have shown him. In addition, he also uses an expanded sound palette. Along with the traditional big band sound hehas enhanced the timbral possibilities on this CD through the use of a tubax, various percussion or even vibraphone withelectronic effects.
