 Quelques vers du poète tchèque Adam Asnyk et quelques notations sur la thématique des larmes dans l'art chrétien introduisent le Stabat Mater du compositeur Roman Padlewski (1915-1944) qui fit une brève carrière militaire (Il perdit la vie à 29 ans lors du soulèvement de Varsovie) mais dont la production musicale fut en partie détruite. Composée en 1939 juste avant la guerre, l’œuvre est considérée comme son opus testamentaire. Basée sur le texte latin, l’œuvre est divisée en trois parties distinctes. Descriptive (Marie devant la dépouille de son Fils), narrative (Introduction d'un récitant) puis résolutive (La promesse du Paradis). Partition déchirante et prémonitoire portée par la ferveur du chœur de Katowice, l’œuvre est un long crescendo dont la forme se distend peu à peu pour aboutir à une transfiguration finale. Joana Wnuk-Nazarowa née en 1949 fut élève de Penderecki (composition) et de Hans Swarovski (direction d'orchestre) avant d'exercer des fonctions officielles. Son Planctus est une poignante litanie commémorant la disparition dans un accident d'avion de personnalités politiques. Les Psaumes du Futur composés en 2009 s'inspirent de textes du poète Zygmund Krazinsky, cinq fragments qui questionnent sur un fond religieux la responsabilité et la contingence humaine tout en offrant une qualité et une clarté d'écriture remarquables. A ces déplorations (Tearfully), on peut ajouter celle, si pudique, d'Henri Calet « Ne me secouez pas, je suis plein de larmes ». (Jérôme Angouillant) Tears, this visible attribute of sadness, paradoxically, can be a form of katharsis, a dam against despair. The sadness caused by an individual or collective experience of evil, transformed into the Christian hope for a change of fate, sometimes triggers a creative thought; it allows this experience of sadness to be transformed into the form of an artistic message. While composing Stabat Mater for a cappella choir in 1939, could Roman Padlewski foresee that by dedicating this work to his mother he would draw her personal path of sorrow? The Psalms of the Future and Planctus – works by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa recorded on this album – had their world premieres with the participation of the excellent Singers’ Group of the City of Katowice Camerata Silesia under the direction of its creator, director, and conductor – Anna Szostak. The spirit of the theatre, the stage song, and the actor’s dialogue circulates through this music evoking Polish fears and hopes (probably permanently inscribed into our history) in an extremely suggestive way thanks to the poet’s words.
