Opus 1 is a project resulting from common musical interest of well-educated soloists - violinist Michal Buczkowski and guitarist Aleksander Wilgos. The CD is a consequence of their exploration and passion, joy of discovering new sounds and colours, so uncommon in a joint performance of violin and guitar. Andaluza and Oriental belong to the cycle of 12 Spanish Dances (1890) for piano by Enrique Granados. In fact, the pieces, inspired with traditional Spanish music, are not dances but their stylisations. Elements of folklore are the basis on which characteristic, yet stylistically independent pieces were created. The majority of the compositions featured on the CD draw from folk music of the composers’ countries of origin in a similar way: Kurpian Song by Karol Szymanowski - from Polish music, Duos by Béla Bartók - from Hungarian one, while Suite by Máximo Diego Pujol - from Argentinian. As far as the style is concerned, it is Arvo Pärt’s piece Spiegel im Spiegel that stands out, representing minimal music.
