Koncepcja. The ensemble was created by Michal Maslak and Justyna Jazdzyk in march 2018 and since then has been leading quite an intense concert activity. The musicians constantly look for new means of expression to reinforce the authenticity of expression of performed works. The pianist and saxophonist create an ambitious tandem standing out from the crowd because of their artistic level, passion and modernity. The ensemble’s repertoire contains pieces being part of the saxophone literature canon, however it mainly focuses of contemporary works as well as those bordering on popular and jazz music. These are works by renowned composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, transcriptions and works composed especially for them, such as the Sonata op. 87 by Marcin Kopczynski. The ensemble’s artistic output is enriched by their participation in unusual events, such as a mini-recital at the Mikolaj Kopernik University in Torun, during the ceremony of giving the title of doctor honoris cause of the that University to the Nobel Prize laureate, professor R. F. Engle. One might find it interesting, that the saxophone Michal Maslak uses is an instrument from 1934, very similar in construction to the ones produced by Adolf Sax in the 2nd half of the 19th century, which in conjunction with the mouthpiece based on the constructor’s original patent, produces a rather unique sonoric effect: a warm, soft and full sound, which is rarely seen on contemporary stages.
