The Argentinean Saxophonist Natalio Sued (born 1973) is considered one of the most important jazz musicians of his country, and his is receiving increasing attention in the rest of the world too. The jazz scene in Argentina and especially in the capital Buenos Aires has made a tremendous stride forward over the past decade, and more and more musicians are attempting the leap to North America or Europe. Sued, who completed studies in classical music at the "National Conservatory Lopez Buchardo" in Buenos Aires, then studied at the renowned Berklee School of Music in the USA. He is currently studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory. He is one of those musicians, who deeply believes that learning never stops for an artist. Although he has completed both classical and jazz studies (supplemented by private lessons with Dick Oatts, Lee Konitz, Jimmy Halperin, Chris Cheek and others) and has performed numerous times – from tango to theater productions – he is still striving to improve his abilities both as composer and interpreter of music. Natalio Sued met the exceptional musician and fellow wind instrument player Michael Moore soon after he arrived in Amsterdam. Born in California in 1954, he has lived in Amsterdam almost 25 years and has not only played with numerous stars from his native country in Europe, but also founded his own record label and has participated in numerous other projects (his "Trio Clusone" is the most well known of them). He can be heard on 80 different CDs in the meantime. Paul Berner can point to a turbulent and multifaceted career. The Californian played in the band Monty Alexanders at the beginning of the 80s and later with Lionel Hampton and Milt Jackson. As Moore did, he emigrated (1990), also to Amsterdam. He has worked with all well-known Dutch musicians since then, but is also a bassist in demand on the European tours of George Coleman and Shirley Bassey, among others. Flin van Hemmen (born 1982) is not only the sole Dutchman in the crew, but also the youngest band member. The drummer from Hermann Fraanje, among others, has the required sensitivity, which a quartet without a piano needs. The compositions of Sued combine the plainness and expressiveness of folk songs (you can often hear references to the repertoire of his native country) with the complexity of jazz – both rhythmically and harmonically. Beautiful and exciting at the same time!
