The impulse and drive of blowing "Tuttrieb-Triebtat", a play on words. In German, the word "Trieb" has two meanings: a strong urge and also the tender shoots of a plant. With the impulse and drive of blowing, delicate shoots have grown into strong trees. Trees that have grown deep and sturdy roots but nonetheless have the slight swaying humour that makes them so delightful. On his third solo record (see "Atemketten - Breath Chains" (UTR 4018) and "Atemwerke - Breath Works" (UTR 4030)) Markus Eichenberger, saxophone and clarinet player from Zurich, spent seven days in the studio and recorded eight compositions by overdubbing. With nine instruments (4 saxophones, 4 clarinets and an alphorn) experimentalist Eicheberger has created a foliage of wonderfully intricate sound patterns, a homogenous work rich in facets and surprising images. Working playback, the instruments sound in combinations ranging from simple duos up to a 20 track orchestra. The music is based on speech- and rhythm-fragments which provided a network for the compositions and improvisations. The only exception is a montage of alphorn-bass clarinet based on a live recording done at the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (Battle Monument) in Leipzig which has a natural delay of 45 seconds. The recording was done without electronic effects and only used at a minimum when mixing. Therefore Eichenberger and his "musical tongue" are fully present in this extraordinary "brass music".
