Mark Polscher has rewritten and rearranged his sound installation The Pomegranate Tree for electronic music and voices which can be listened to as part of the Egyptian Museum in Munich as of June 2013. "Inside the labyrinth of sounds the piece unfolds an atmosphere that appears to be both beneath the earth and above at the same time. The voices sing, speak, whisper, each time moving slowly back towards silence, appearing ephemeral and distant, then again near, intimate. The stratifying of layers made up of voices and timbres of transformed noises reports the distance that lies between us and the texts. But the insisting repetition of some passages relates also the power of these texts, that just as the bird Phoenix, leaps through timespans and metamorphosis." (Tobias Roth in Süddeutsche Zeitung). With The Pomegranate Tree the 1961 born composer and producer of electroacoustic music and more than 90 soundtracks for drama, ballet and film, presents his fifth album at marc aurel edition. The 63 minute piece is based upon the 64 channel sound installation of the same title, that Polscher executed by commission for the State Museum of Egyptian Art, Munich. Polscher’s "Glorious Efflorescence of Sounds" (The Wire) reaches in The Pomegranate Tree a new climax in sonority and polyphony.
