The recording we present to you today embodies the idea of musical dialogue, which is manifested by the title of the album – Call and response. Marek Domanski faces various traditions; he does not limit himself to 20th-century piano playing – he also explores the harmonies between jazz and classical music, which were especially close to each other in the first half of that century. His inspiration and guide has been Bill Evans, an outstanding American musician and pianist. We will find here many themes drawn from the repertoire of one of the most famous jazzmen, reinterpreted by the Polish artist; we will also hear Domanski’s answer in the form of his own compositions. One can say that the album Call and response is the essence of the meeting, which is a crucial factor in jazz: improvising together, developing motifs, bold harmonies opening the musical horizon. In this case the artist plays alone, but we have no doubt that this music resonates in the space of dialogue, in which new meanings are created, discoveries are made, interpretations pile up. It is a world of musical infinity; of works in a continuous process and dynamic dependence on the world.
