Popielski, Serocki, and Maksymiuk – the names of three composers who played an important part in the development of Polish music across the 20th century. The publishing house Acte Préalable presents another album unveiling these unknown composers of contemporary Polish music. First, we have three pieces by Zbigniew Popielski, known as a pedagogue and composer, and whose works were created over a span of fifty years. They cover diverse genres and musical form, from which three elements are distinct. The first are vocal, instrumental, orchestral, religious and chamber pieces, as well as works for piano, flute and horn solo. The second current is composed of theatre music, which is tied to the involvement of the artist with Polish drama theatres and puppet theatres. The third, are songs from the popular music genre, performed and awarded numerous times Jerzy Maksymiuk does not require any introduction. He is a renowned conductor, composer, and contemporary music promotor, which is shown by his work with the Polish Contemporary Music Society. He devotes the same amount of time to his compositional output. The composer of the final piece is Kazimierz Serocki, in whose work we find references to styles and trends characteristically found in many works of the 20th century – from neo-classicism, new folklore, to dodecaphony, punctualism, or a more unstructured form, which hi-lights the composer’s flexibility and openness to new tendencies.
