 Irlandais, né avec le 21e Siècle, donc un gamin, mais déjà pointé du doigt par les jurys des concours de Dublin et de Cork, chez lui, et le voila, quasi crânement qui ouvre son premier récital au disque par…les "Miroirs" de Ravel ! Je ne pouvais qu’aller y entendre. La sonorité d’ensemble est naturellement équilibrée, une belle main gauche qui timbre, peut-être un peu trop pour faire les "Noctuelles" absolument volatiles, et les "Oiseaux" autrement que simplement atones (pour ne pas écrire amorphes) mais "Alborada" est parfaite, sinon la "Barque", très orchestrée du piano, qui donne à voir mais guère à sentir. Pourtant cette "Vallée des cloches" qui sombre dans un mystère, cela ce n’est pas d’un gamin, ni les deux "Etudes d’exécution transcendantes" en grand son où Liszt l’inspire vraiment, contrairement à Rachmaninoff qui lui commande une certaine prudence, pas pour les doigts, mais pour les couleurs et donc l’expression. Les contemporains (Escaich) ou presque (Ligeti) sont parfaits, et là pas seulement pour tirer le portrait d’un jeune homme que je suivrais avec attention (Discophilia - Artalinna.com).
