Since 1999 Kerouac makes part of the Zurich underground. Kerouac is a very innovative and unique Swiss Jazz Quartet composed of Michael Jaeger (ts), Vincent Membrez (p), Luca Sisera (b), and the well established drummer Norbert Pfammatter. With the release of "Erfindungen" by the Label Unit Records, Kerouac now delivers innovative music to your ears. The music consists of collective improvisations, which have a central theme and/or idea. The aim is to move circularly around variations of this theme or idea, rather than laterally, so that the material gains intensity. From this reduced material the music is then organised into "Time Pieces" with the help of time scores. Four syncronised digital clocks act as the conductors. With the help of these clocks, radical breaks and cuts become playable. Other compositions from Michael Jaeger attempt to engage more traditonal styles for example, Swing and Jazzstandards. The style of melody used by Michael Jaeger is comparable to those of modern saxophonist Greg Osby. The hamonies are inspired by saxophonist Mark Turner, under whom Michael Jaeger studied. The more traditional pieces are no longer harmonically functional; they are however, the colors of cords placed on and next to each other bound with the logic of independent melody. The love of logic in music was taught to Michael Jaeger by the Swiss saxophonist Nat Su, with whom he studied for ten years.Time pieces, free improvisation or original songs which create the Kerouac sound are a compact an far-reaching mix of drums, upright bass, (prepared) piano and tenor saxophon, held together and together heard.
