KELLER'S <10>: A FINE-TOOTHED GEAR WITH POWER RESERVES Keller's <10>'s debut CD begins with the musical essence of what the band's created so far. The opener, "SYD BARRETT", is an homage to the deceased Pink Floyd musician and abounds with tone colour, atmosphere and musical wit. This distinctive piece of music contains inspired written-out passages, but it also gives the outstanding ensemble the opportunity to live out their passion for improvisation. With its psychedelic touch, "SYD BARRETT" is a playground, where Keller's <10> enjoy themselves and where Dixie meets manic Polka, with the festive gloom of a funeral band in the air. The ensemble of the young Swiss composer Beat Keller features ten of the most exciting younger-generation musicians from the Swiss Jazz scene. The band has half the line-up of a big band: three woodwinds, two trumpets, two trombones, contrabass, piano and drums. At the core of the band's repertoire are Beat Keller's unique compositions full of commitment, which bring together elements of Jazz, Contemporary Classical music and Popular music, with written-out structures, improvisation - sometimes collectively conducted, grooves and much more. Here, Jazz musicians are not always restricted to playing Jazz. The ensemble came into being at the beginning of 2006. Since then, they've caused sensations at numerous concerts in Switzerland. At the end of October 2007, Keller's <10> recorded their first studio production with Peter Bürli and Andy Neresheimer at Radiostudio DRS in Zurich. On September 12th 2008, the recording will be released by Unit Records (www.unitrecords.com), and on September 16th, the CD will be presented to the public with a CD-release-concert at the Moods Jazzclub in Zurich. As shows the horn machine on the CD cover, <10> is a fine-toothed gear, which uses its considerable power reserves whenever need be. A must-hear. One-of-a-kind.
