Juliusz Luciuk is a composer who writes in many different genres, yet throughout these varied expressive devices are several common denominators. One of the most crucial is deeply felt authenticity. Regardless of the aesthetic area he explores, Luciuk penetrates to the very essence of each type of music without ever yielding to accepting unpopular stylistic alliances. This rule has applied, on the one hand, to the sonorism of his avant-garde period, and on the other, to his sacred choral works. It has been no less valid in the case of the music where he sought more popular aesthetics, examples of which fill the content of the present recording. It is easy to observe that such considerations, such as the division into genres or historical styles, the opposition of high art versus popular art, or professional performance versus spontaneous music-making, were never given clear-cut boundaries in Juliusz Luciuk’s artistic consciousness. This trait of musical sensitivity has resulted in creative openness, unbridled fantasy, undiminished inquisitiveness, and kind-hearted tolerance. These are all characteristics that perhaps could help explain the appearance in Luciuk’s oeuvre, against the background of broadly conceived high culture, of a stock of singularly lighthearted and carefree compositions.
