Nu Love

Johannes Mössinger (p)
Karl Latham (dr)
Kermit Driscoll (b)
Bob Malach (ts)

Johannes Mössinger is one of the most important German jazz pianists today. He works regularly with European and American musicians and has performed at numerous concerts and been on many tours, not just in many European countries, but also in the USA and the Middle East. “Nu Love” is his fourth production at Double Moon Records (following the solo CD “Spring In Versailles”, the duet with Wolfgang Lackerschmid, “Joana’s Dance” and the first CD with the New York trio “Monk’s Corner” with star guest Joe Lovano). The New York trio has been a solid group for the past four year, which performs regularly on both sides of the Atlantic. The trio performed several concerts with Bob Malach on the east coast of the USA last year, which then resulted in this studio recording. Johannes Mössinger cites his first influences from jazz as Red Garland, Winton Kelly, Thelonious.Monk, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. But there are also European musicians such as John Taylor, Joachim Kühn, Wolfgang Dauner and Albert Mangelsdorf. He has also dealt with Satie, Schostakovitsch and especially Bach. All these sounds characterize his piano playing. The same as a few other pianists, he began learning trumpet and then switched to the piano as his main instrument. Lessons from and workshops by John Taylor, Karl Berger, Joe Haider and Dave Liebman refined his playing further. The result is a captivating and modern piano style, which links virtuosity, polyphony and sensibility. Kermit Driscoll studied bass under Jaco Pastorius and at the Berklee School of Music. He was bassist for Bill Frisell in 1986- 1996, e.g., in the legendary trio with Joey Baron. He played with many musicians from the Knitting Factory environment and developed his own style on the bass. Among others, he has played with John Zorn, Dave Douglas, Don Byron, Mark Feldman, Tom Rainey, Hank Roberts, Chet Baker, Elliot Sharp, Toots Thielemanns and Buddy Rich. Karl Latham comes from the New York scene, lives near the metropolis today and is a highly regarded drummer in the jazz, rock and fusion scenes to the same degree. He has played in the jazz bands of Larry Coryell, Jasper Van’t Hof, Bob Malach, John Lee, Dave Samuels, Ed Cherry, Attila Zoller, Dave Valentine (Fantasy Band) as well as in popular bands of Edgar Winter, Jonny Winter, the Shirells Deodato and Blood Sweat &Tears. He has toured Europe and the USA regularly since 1994. Bob Malach is one of the most flexible and most in-demand tenor sax players. He feels just as much at home in jazz as in fusion. He has already worked together with a great number of musicians from Madonna to Mose Allison, from Stevie Wonder to Michel Petrucciani, and from Robben Ford to Horace Silver. He will continue to tour with the New York trio insofar as his full schedule allows it, because this trio has become an important pivotal point for him. There will be another tour on the east coast of the USA in the fall.
