I wrote A la tombée du jour (At the day’s end), a series of songs to the poems of Jean Soler in 2008 and dedicated this piece to the memory of his wife Maria and my husband Jürgen Tittel, both died in 2017. Jean wrote these poems in 2017 and gave them to me as proof of a big and long friendship, that began in Warsaw in 1966. This series of poems, a sort of poet’s testament and his final oeuvre, I composed in two versions: for contralto and organs, and version written for bass-baritone and piano, translated by me to Polish. Jean Soler wished to also hear his poems in Polish as well as in a version for male voice and piano. Additionally, he wanted to record his texts on his own, because we planned to publish the album with both versions of the song and text. Unfortunately, he died on July 16th 2019 and never heard his piece of work in Polish.
