Music has been a major part of my life almost since the day I was born and jazz has been the biggest part, since both my father and grandfather are/were jazz drummers. Being a teenager in the 90’s with the impression that only ”old people” played jazz, my first knockout experience of acoustic jazz was hearing the Roy Hargrove Quintet in the early 90’s at the Stockholm Jazz Festival. Their performance buried my prejudice and opened the door to a whole new world, and it wasn’t long after that until I heard this band. Jazz Furniture (which initially was a misspelling of ”Jazz Futures”). I can hardly think of another swedish lineup where each and everyone has ended up playing such an important role in the Swedish jazz history! I still to this day remember hearing them at Sergels Torg during the Stockholm Water Festival, and since then I can’t count the hours I have spent listening to, and being influenced by these musicians. I have then been fortunate to work with all the members of this band. They all, together and individually, has changed the scene and words can’t describe their importance. None of them actually need an introduction nowadays. After being contacted by Caprice to produce some reissues from their fantastic catalog, this was an easy first choice. Great music, by great musicians, and also sounding great (sound wizard Åke Linton did this recording!), it has been a treat! So I am proud and happy to re-introduce Jazz Furniture on this luxurious double 180g vinyl! I am jealous of all of you that hear it for the first time! (Jonas Kullhammar)
