Since old times the ancient voice of the Jewish people has been transmitted through the oral tradition, as in a sort of living record, it has faithfully recorded the sounds and feelings which have given life to it. It is a moving music that has branched out into an inextricable intertwining of musical forms and presents an extraordinary variety of styles due to the dispersion of the Jewish communities throughout the world. [...] / From the first notes we feel the deep mysticism of religious hymns, the piyyutim – born in Palestine from the sixth century – which the voice of Delilah Gutman strongly calls up from the past; we are transported with levity into the world of Sephardic melodies, yet vibrant with love and yearning for the beloved Spain; we perceive the torment and the pining emerging from the notes and the words of Yiddish songs, many of them composed during the Nazi era. And finally, we find intact the emotions that inspired the voices of our ancient ancestresses, we feel the same forward again with such intensity, in the voice of Delilah Gutman, along with the sound of Rephael Negri’s violin.
