Andreas Schaerer`s "Hildegard lernt fliegen" is very convincing with its unique aesthetic. This unusual approach without harmony instruments, and the combination of melodic instruments leads to a thrilling and new soundscape. The composer and singer Andreas Schaerer knows how to weave the six instruments and to use their colors to tell bizarre stories, stepping into polymetric constructions and to reaching the listener with a touch of chamber music. Complex arranged fragments turn into solistic parts and collective improvisations. Pictures are drawn with fine lines and/or painted with rough brushes. Descriptive paintings are being crumpled, setting them on fire and then being dipped into dark red color. Behind corners unexpected turns are lurking and grinning with a roguish smile, challenging the listener. The music develops a pulsating dynamic! The musical camaraderie of the sextet shows an inter-play of pleasure and risk-taking. The horns, featuring Matthias Wenger (soprano- and alto-saxophone), Patrick Schnyder (tenor- and baritone-saxophone, bass- and contrabass-clarinet) and Roman Bieri (trombone), create a powerful ensemble and are very thrilling as soloists. The rhythm section, featuring Marco Mueller (bass) and Christoph Steiner (drums), provides a steady ground and gives some of the most important impulses to the band. The vocal improvisations of Andreas Schaerer are a rarity, as he knows how to use his voice in a diverse range and with a variation of sounds. A special delicacy is the CD-Cover, painted with attention to detail and with lots of love by the artist Peter Bäder.
