It probably helps that you like Jazz when it comes to the feisty debut album by Swissnewcomers Hello Truffle, "Streifzug". "Streifzug" could translate as razzia or raid, but expedition might be the most suitable term to describe the musical gems saxophonist and bandleader Matthias Wenger and his fellows offer on this quick-witted record. At times it's melancholy and heartbreaking, like bassist Philipp Moll's contribution Bec, then suddenly tense and even rapturous as guitarist Nick Perrin and drummer Christoph Steiner ascend into rocket-illuminating spheres. It helps to think of the many turns jazz has taken from Armstrong to today, always pulling in influences from Stravinsky, BartoÌk, Messiaen and surrealistic elements.
