GRÜNES BLATT "Foaie Verde" - Grünes Blatt (translation: Green Leaf), it is with this enchanted exclamation that many folkloric Romanian songs start, the lyrics often address nature rather than people. The plain but passionate melodies of the Romanian folkloric music are the central element of the Grünes Blatt sextet. However, the band seeks a new and improvised reinterpretation of this archaic folklore; looking for a sound that also integrates lyrical adaptations into a new entity of its own. Different instrumental constellations are explored to present the songs in a new way each time. The sextet brings extremes together: the elementary with the sophisticated, the composed with the freely improvised, the rough with the tender, the traditional with the new. Grünes Blatt was created in 2008 by its double-bass player Dominique Girod and the Romanian singer Irina Ungureanu. It's first album "Thirteen Ways" is released by Unit Records in fall 2011.
