For more than three years the Gregor Loepfe Trio has been on the Swiss Jazz scene with a style that is melodically varied, distinctive and rhythmically enthralling, while being captivating and accessible at the same time.In the current program mainly the pianist's own compositions are interpreted. They often reflect personal and emotional impressions of life, society and politics, etc. Apart from this, the trio also plays audaciously arranged standards and imaginatively arranged pop songs and film themes. For the near future the trio is planning a repertoire of jazzily arranged classical themes. Artistic models for the latter undertaking being among others: Enrico Pieranunzi , E.S.T. , Robert Glasper , Brad Mehldau , The Bad Plus, Tingvall Trio.The trio's music is passionate, wild and impetuous, but also gentle and lyrical, steeped in various ancient and modern musical styles and eras. In short, it is melodic jazz with strong themes, embedded in a groovy carpet of idiosyncratic but accessible rhythms, driving beats, riffs and harmonies with plenty of room for improvisation. The result is never complacent or too intellectual and never fails to thrill the audience.
