The Lucerne-based quintet, founded and led by vocal artist Pascal Galeone, captivates the audience and takes the listener on a colourful, moving and diversified musical journey. With their roots steeped in Jazz, the band moves through a fascinating world of enchanting rhythms and harmonic structures, combined with the playful mixing of sounds and bold hinting at familiar musical styles. The thoughtfully structured, subtle compositions of Pascal Galeone and Franz Hellmüller as well as the free improvisations create experiences from vigorous, prickling passages to gracious and soothing moods. Arabian and Asian melodies, driven by implied African grooves, blend into a delightful playground of musical elements, crossing the line to atonality and approaching the edge of the "far out". The voice of Pascal Galeone contributes to the overall sound of the band as one of its five equal instruments. His singing enables the Quintet to achieve its distinctive character, which turns every performance into a unique musical experience. In Galeone's singing style, texts are not used. Often his voice joins other instruments and forms a harmonic texture, hurtling in unison with the guitar along virtuoso lines or engaging in a duet with the soft sound of the bass trombone, being featured in a solo part of typical scat singing, dying away whining, chuckling and yowling in fantastical spaces, and flooding the audience with Babylonian gibberish which sets the scene of a waiting hall in an Indian bus station. The four brilliant instrumentalists support the vocalist with their empathetic, agile playing. The versatile style of the drums and bass confidently provides the power to bring the whole quintet to its hot-and-cooking level. The result is an extraordinary quintet with a very unique band sound. All in all, an act one definitely should not miss.
