19 unpublished tracks, songs that never have been released before Half a Lifetime! For thirty years now, Christy Doran and Fredy Studer, the former of Irish decent, the latter from Switzerland's most picturesque city Lucerne, have collaborated in countless projects. And, of course, their collaboration has turned into a close friendship, a pursuit of common interests, a workshop of ideas that - no doubt - will not cease contributing to contemporary improvised music. The future actually began thirty years ago, proof of this is documented by the double-CD "Half a Lifetime". 19 unpublished tracks, songs that never have been released before, alternative takes of well-known compositions... and the insight that a band like OM (1972-1982) has not lost any of its shine. On the contrary, after 20 years, OM sounds as fresh as ever and still spreads its characteristic Swiss unconventionality. The same applies for the other 19 titles, 16 of which come from different formations where yesterday's newcomers had a first go at their stardom of today: Ray Anderson, Django Bates, Urs Blöchlinger, Stephan Wittwer, Tom Cora, Bobby Burri, Urs Leimgruber, Charlie Mariano, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Jasper van't Hof and many more. So "Half a Lifetime" is far from simply being a nostalgic review of former outstanding performances but is an intriguing compilation of the dynamics that have made Christy Doran and Fredy Studer what they represent today: Consequently innovative artists with a clear profile.
