Christian Kullack - guitarist, composer, bandleader - has gathered together ten like-minded musicans to form the ensemble CK + 10. With this Berlin-based ensemble, Christian has found the perfect medium to express his musical ideas. Hiscompositions are wide-ranging, spanning from complex to disarmingly simple; from poignant emotion to clever wit. At times, creating a reflective mood with solemn, chamber music-like passages drifting from delicate woodwinds together with theclear, clean vocals of Winnie Bruckner's NINEWE quartet. At others, letting loose with fat juicy sounds involving the full ensemble. They're a blend of 1950's bigband jazz, as on the opening piece "Nr. 12", and the featherlight flutes and clarinets on "Mein Kleiner Rauschender Freund"; of the contemporay jazz-tinged "Auf Leben Und Ton", and "Max Mag's", a crossover, noholds barred Latin groove in 17/8 time. And then there's the moving "Someone Else's Dream", a ballad in 5/4 time, featuring Winnie Bruckner's beguiling vocals, supported by an ostinato figure played in unison by Wurlitzer and guitar. CK + 10 is the winner of the 2012 Studioforderpreis Jazz, sponsored by the Berlin Senate. The resulting CD, "Auf Leben und Ton" is now available on Unit Records.
