The Fabulous Fable Project around the two founder members, drummer Dominik Burger and pianist Thise Gloor, is now going into its tenth year. Completed into a quartet by bassist Thomas Hirt and saxophonist Ekkehard Sassenhausen, the band plays the sort of music that contains both immediate explosiveness and lyrical beauty, where intricate compositions combine with the freedom of open musical structure, where enthusiasm und virtuosity culminate in gripping improvisations. You may be reminded of Horace Silver's soul jazz or hear a trace of Charles Mingus among Schoenberg-like sounds and end up, after an improvisation in the tradition of the legendary Swiss jazz eighties, absorbing the appealing sounds of John Coltane.
