Ce nouvel opus d'Enjott Schneider au titre énigmatique « Mozart & Beethoven meeting Yin & Yang » conçu en collaboration avec un jeune orchestre (Jena) et deux solistes internationaux (Juliana Koch, Wu Wei) procède comme c'est l'usage chez ce créateur polyvalent d'une réflexion intellectuelle et musicale (Musical thoughts). Raptus est une pièce en forme d'ouverture qui s'appuyant sur quelques thèmes beethovéniens, explore le caractère bipolaire de Beethoven, confrontant les œuvres à caractère (Symphonies) et mélancolique (Derniers quatuors). La surcharge orchestrale et l'exacerbation des climats illustrent fort bien l'acte paroxystique. Mozart Ascending est une « re-création » du concerto inachevé K293 pour hautbois de Mozart. Là aussi Schneider mêle extraits du concerto et sa propre écriture injectant une cadence dramatique continue à l'intérieur de l’œuvre. Malgré une certaine dilatation du discours (Allegro redondant), le résultat convainc. Autre Concerto mais celui-ci pour Sheng (orgue à bouche) dont le titre Yin & Yang évoque la double nature des choses (on retrouve la bipolarité) et la dualité Orient / Occident. Schneider juxtapose savamment les modes et les textures de l'orchestre recourant à de fréquents ostinatos et une rythmique motorique pour relancer un développement narratif constamment nourri évoquant par moments le Takemitsu des musiques de film. La dernière pièce Inner Worlds est un highlight de l'opéra Bahnwarter Thiel composé par Schneider d'après le roman de Gerhart Hauptmann). Le compositeur dit s'être inspiré des Sea Interludes de Britten. Là encore le travail de l'orchestre (Nuances et dynamiques) est remarquable. Thématique solide, réalisation brillantissime (Les solistes !). Un disque inspirant. Enjoy Schneider ! (Jérôme Angouillant)

In his latest portrait album, Munich composer Enjott Schneider once again reveals new and fascinating interrelationships between classical and contemporary music, and between the Western and Far Eastern traditions. Two of the works deal directly with two of the central figures in the history of Western music: Raptus. Die Freiheit des Beethoven investigates the meaning of freedom and the contrasts between the heroic style of Beethoven’s youth and the cryptic works of his later years. Mozart Ascending for Oboe and Orchestra reflects on Mozart’s unfinished Oboe Concerto KV 293 and the otherworldly nature of the Salzburg master’s genius. Far Eastern influences dominate in Yin & Yang. Concerto for Sheng and Orchestra. The soloist in this concerto for the traditional Chinese instrument is Wu Wei, a virtuoso artist who has introduced the Sheng to European audiences and to whom the work is dedicated. Innenwelten – Innerworlds presents eight symphonic interludes from Bahnwärter Thiel, Schneider’s opera based on the tragic novella by Gerhart Hauptmann. The opera’s central figure is hypersensitive and filled with inner visions, taciturn and not given to overt expression.
