EAM "Electronic Acoustic Meeting": There is no more direct expression of what is going on within this band. Digital sound sources (computer generated) meet electric, amplified acoustic instruments including violin and cello all kept in groove by a drum set. The music on "raft" has a smooth, lounge character and flows between chilly ambient tracks and pulsing groove pieces. A laptop computer, cello and drums provide the foundation for rhythmic sound collages, over which the violin extends, reflects, lifts, dances with and traces the melodies. The four Bernese instrumentalists around violinist Hans Burgener produce music with an electronic coloured groove. The pieces become easy going and comfortable. You will find no artificially complex searching or contemporary electro-acoustic experiments on "raft". Instead there are smooth grooves, synthi-atmospheric ambience, house-timbre, melodic walking bass lines and ambient sound horizons expressed in this work. At one moment a pulsing forward character, then a funky atmospheric feel, then relaxed and atmospheric and then a darkening and celebratory landscape emerges. Hans Burgener is a classically trained violinist and since this grounding has a wide range of experience in experimental and improvised music (such musicians as Barre Phillis, Martin Schütz, Richard Teitelbaum) including projects with other arts and genres. Martin Müller is associated with jazz and world music and was, among other things, active alongside West African music and musicians with his group G.O.N.G. Roger Stucki has very strong roots in electronic music from the beginning of his musical career. And keeping the groove for EAM is Stefan Woodtli who grew up as a drummer in the world of rock and blues. In EAM the different musical experiences and temperaments come together. Each of the musicians brings their specific sound textures into the band while maintaining the group's cohesion. The resulting music is astonishingly round and harmonic. The solistic dominating violin travels far into the atmosphere being inspired by the warm pulsing structures of electronic, cello and drums. "raft" takes the listener on a relaxed journey into summer.
