Daniel Lentz River of 1 000 Streams Ray - CB0050 - Contemporain - par Cold Blue

River of 1,000 Streams (2016) is a complex, slowly growing, densely textural piece for solo piano and up to 11 layers of “cascading echoes” (reappearing fragments of music) that appear kaleidoscopically, creating thick clouds of tremolos that gradually gain in density and volume as rich, drifting harmonies climb, in a great arc, from the very bottom to the top of the keyboard. Each of the piece’s hundreds of “echoes” is a short moment of the piano solo that may reappear anywhere from a half-second to 25 minutes after the pianist first plays it. Floating sparsely amid the piece’s rich texture of tremolos, and appearing quietly, spectrally, are short moments of a more melodic, or less textural, nature.
