Daniel Lentz Point Conception Dunlap Pezzone - Cb0028 - Contemporary - by Cold Blue

This CD combines composer Daniel Lentz‘s wild nine-piano tribute to the octave, Point Conception (originally issued by Cold Blue Music in the mid 1980s), with his previously unrecorded NightBreaker, a kaleidoscopic and explosive tour de force for four pianos. NightBreaker ambles, jumps, careens, pauses, and flings itself forward. Point Conception bubbles over with streams of octaves that run the length of the keyboard. Both pieces revel in and comment on late-19th-century harmony. Through overdubbing (via “cascading echo system”), long-time Lentz Ensemble pianist Arlene Dunlap performs all of Point Conception‘s parts. Likewise, via overdubbing, noted Los Angeles pianist Bryon Pezzone performs all of NightBreaker‘s parts. [CD and folder in jewel case]
