 Aleksandra Garbal, Polish composer, pianist, harpsichordist, music theorist and teacher from Toszek. She graduated, with distinction, from the Music Academy in Katowice in 1996. From 1993 to 1999 she continued postgraduate studies in composition under the direction of Józef Swider, and in the harpsichord class of Marek Toporowski – she graduated with distinction in 1998. In 2000, she graduated after studies in Music Theory from the Music Academy in Warsaw. From 2002 to 2005 she studied at the Music Academy in Katowice in the Vocal-Instrumental Department – piano class of Maria Kubien-Uszok and Monika Sikorska-Wojtacha – again, she graduated with distinction in 2005. In 2009–2012 she continued postgraduate studies in composition under the direction of Marian Borkowski at the Music University in Warsaw. In 1987, Aleksandra Garbal gained a Janackova summer scholarship to the Academy of Performing Arts in Brno. From 1994 she has gained a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and Art. In 1996 she gained summer composer scholarship from the Music Academy in Rheinsberg (Germany), and in 1998 – a Gaudeamus Foundation scholarship in Amsterdam. She has taken part in many multinational composing courses, workshops and symposiums lead by such composers like Paul-Heinz Dittrich, Helmut Zapf,...
