Blue Skies is the third album of Cassandra Wilson, the Mississippi-born New Yorker. In this third production under her name she has dug deeply into the rich mine of jazz standards and brought to the surface tunes that are classic yet not overstrained. Cassandra moves in the area of jazz standards with the same ease as in her own music represented by her first two albums, never failing to put her own stamp on the music. Her vocals are artful instead of artificial, forceful instead of forced, and there is no fooling around with unnecessary ornamentation, every note is sincere and getting down to the point.
