BLOOMER GIRL (Arlen & Harburg) A live 1956 television production starring Barbara Cook, Bloomer Girl boasts a glorious score by the team of Harold Arlen and E. Y. “Yip” Harburg (the pair who wrote the songs for The Wizard of Oz). The story is set at the brink of the Civil War, and addresses issues of women’s rights and slavery, with some fun poked at organized religion along the way. For this production, the legendary Agnes Mille re-staged her choreography for the original 1944 Broadway production, and assembled the original four principal dancers to re-create their roles.
