Austrian composer Bernd Richard Deutsch takes a lot of inspiration from science fiction novels like the ones from Philip K. Dick. On his pieces : Mad Dog : A piece of music, as if taken from real life... I imagine that the three movements include a 24-hour cycle, starting with the noon and the afternoon (he pushes, pulls, runs, jumps, sniffs, pants, barks, howls, growls, yaps, drinks) throughout the evening and the night (the time of dreams/nightmares and the seemingly irrational, but also the silence) until the morning or the forenoon (anger, conflict, but only temporarily, a fixed idea [chaconne] - end = start). 2. Streichquartett : Strange animals float chaotically between heaven and earth, between gravity and freedom, in the power of bizarre, unharnessed force fields. Dr. Futurity : Dr. Futurity for 16 instruments is the last and most complex of three works that were written in immediate succession (the other two works are Mad Dog and the 2nd String Quartet) and— to conceptual, musical and dramaturgical similarities—could be united to form a triptych.
