 Jacob Leuschner n’en est pas à son premier disque Beethoven : de son clavier de sculpteur il avait déjà délivré de très convaincantes versions des trois ultimes Sonates. Mais enfin les Diabelli sont tout autre chose, un univers du bref, où le son doit saillir, les idées jaillir, au fond ce qu’est d’abord le piano de Beethoven jusque dans son goût de l’improvisation. Eh bien, Jacob Leuschner ne manque pas de caractère. Passé une deuxième Variation trop roide, il trouve à mesure une fantaisie (dans une certaine rigueur, on pense à Hans Richter-Haaser), des étrangetés dans les diversions polyphoniques, une diversité, qui saisissent bien l’esprit de l’œuvre. Il sait surprendre. Si bien qu’à mesure on entre dans ce qui est un labyrinthe où le thème s’est perdu, on le suit dans ses foucades, ses interrogations, et même lorsqu’il va sans crainte ratiociner, gronder, moquer (la Variation Leporello !). Signe qu’il est un Beethovenien de premier rang, il se garde bien de peser dans ce qui est le chef d’œuvre de l’ensemble, ce Largo où soudain le ciel doit s’ouvrir. Espressivo demande Beethoven, la nuance est là, touchante. Il ne faut pas que ces Diabelli si clairement captées dans l’acoustique parfaite de la Reitsadel de Neumarkt passent à l’as en cette année Beethoven déjà si profuse. His most important teachers were Helmut Barth, Michel Béroff, Konrad Elser and Leonard Hokanson. Since 1 989, he has performed as a soloist and sought-after chamber musician in many European countries, Japan, South Korea, China and the USA, and has been invited to numerous international festivals. He has been a regular participant in the funding project "Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler" (Federal Selection Concerts Young Artists)held by Deutscher Musikrat. Jacob Leuschner taught at the University of Music Lübeck, and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar. From 2008 to 201 4, he held a professorship at the University of Music in Cologne, and then followed a call to join the University of Music in Detmold. He regularly gives masterclasses in many European countries, Japan, China and Korea. His discography includes not only numerous chamber music pieces, such as the complete works for cello and piano by Reger with Guido Schiefen (Oehms Classics), but also the late Beethoven sonatas and Liszt transcriptions.
