 Idée pertinente que de coupler le triple concerto Op.56 et le trio « Archiduc » de Beethoven. Composé entre 1803 et 1804, avec la sonate Waldstein et la Troisième symphonie, le triple concerto op.56 est une œuvre ample et majestueuse, basée sur la richesse mélodique et instrumentale. L’œuvre est singulière, entre le concerto romantique qui oppose le soliste à l’orchestre et la symphonie concertante bien antérieure. / Le long Allegro est pris dans un tempo suffisamment vif pour entretenir un climat dynamique où chaque membre du trio participe de façon active et sans heurts. Chacun est à l’écoute de l’autre. Pareil pour le NSO, dirigé par Jan Willem de Vriend, chef intègre et efficace. Le largo et le final confirme cette impression d’équilibre et d’entente mutuelle. / Notons que le pianiste joue sur un pianoforte Lagrasse 1815, le violon et le violoncelle sont dotés de cordes en boyau. Ce qui accentue la sensualité des timbres et la beauté des échanges, renforçant la grâce apollinienne de cette superbe exécution. / Ecrit une dizaine d’années plus tard, le trio Op.97 est d’une toute autre eau. Dédié à l’archiduc Rodolphe, élève et mécène de Beethoven, le trio révèle une complexité d’écriture et une difficulté technique notables. Les échanges rythmiques et les résolutions harmoniques sont des obstacles à gérer pour les trois interprètes. On retrouve ici les qualités du trio. Une radieuse implication, un plaisir communicatif. Dans l’Andante à variations, si délicat à mener ; les phrasés sont tendus, la ligne est souple, les ponctuations sont respectées. Dans le presto, les somptueuses résonances du pianoforte s’accordent à merveille avec le fouet et l’impétuosité des cordes. Assurément, un beau disque qui révèle toute la générosité et la verdeur du trio Storioni. (Jérôme Angouillant) The Storioni Trio's new Beethoven CD (Triple Concerto and Archduke Trio) will be presented on Saturday 26 January (Storioni Night at the Storioni Festival of which they are artistic directors). The Storioni Trio is accompanied on this recording by the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend. The Storioni Trio has established itself as one of the leading Dutch chamber music ensembles, with concerts in Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and the most prestigious European Festivals. The Trio was founded in 1995 by Bart van de Roer (piano), Wouter Vossen (violin) and Marc Vossen (cello). The trio derives its name from the Laorentius Storioni violin from Cremona, which dates from 1794 and is played by Wouter Vossen. Marc Vossen plays a Giovanni Grancino cello from Milan, dating from 1700. In order to develop its ensemble-playing, the trio has worked over the years with great musicians such as Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Menahem Pressler, and Ralph Kirshbaum, as well as members of the Emerson Quartet and the Vermeer Quartet. The Trio has worked with, among others, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the RTE Orchestra Dublin and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Antwerp. The recordings by the Storioni Trio, for the Pentatone label, have received great international acclaim. The Storioni Trio offers an expansive repertoire ranging from Haydn and Mozart via Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Shostakovich, to exciting works by contemporary composers. Composer Kevin Volans wrote a triple concerto for the 10th anniversary of the Storioni Trio. The trio has received various prizes and awards, and performs regularly on radio and television.
