Ensemble German Brass

Le German Brass, célèbre ensemble de cuivres à la discographie déjà prolifique, nous livre ici un véritable joyau de musique baroque. Après le DVD capté en 2000 en l’église Saint-Thomas de Leipzig, l’ensemble a enregistré en 2010 une dizaine de pièces du grand Thomaskantor. Cette compilation des plus célèbres pages de musique de Johann Sebastian Bach se révèle d’une richesse extraordinaire. Grâce à des arrangements tous brillamment réalisés par trois musiciens de l’ensemble de cuivres, nous assistons à un voyage unique de sonorités, contrastes, virtuosité, couleurs et émotions diverses. L’aspect le plus frappant - et renforcé par une prise de son exceptionnelle - est la proximité des sons des cuivres avec ceux de l’orgue, que nous croyons souvent entendre, soit lors des ultimes accords des pièces, soit dans différentes parties des œuvres. L’orchestration savamment élaborée dans les arrangements nous donne l’illusion d’entendre les différents registres de l’instrument. L’interprétation de la célèbre « Toccata et Fugue » est saisissante de justesse, de précision rythmique et de couleurs extraordinaires. Those who know German Brass will be aware that they do not limit themselves to classic brass music along the lines of the trumpet fanfare. This is an ensemble which blends great virtuosity and sparkling musicality with more than a dash of wit and charm. Their concerts are pure entertainment, spanning the genres from pop through classics and jazz to film music. The success of this approach can be judged by the four decades of the ensemble’s history. The musicians – ten soloists and college professors – have always succeeded in creating a completely new sound of their own for each of their projects, reinventing and rediscovering it in every concert and on every recording.
