The concept behind Ayé is to combine jazz and world music, thus creating music which is imbued with the energy and spontaneity of jazz and, to an equal extent, with the charm and exotic nature of world music. This music is intended to be exciting, entertaining and danceable.Ayé comprises eight wonderful musicians from Lucerne, Chur, Basel and Paris. All have brought with them their experience and qualities obtained during travel and study in South America, Africa, Northern Europe, India, or their respective countries of origin. The compositions penned by Kouatchet, Hellmüller and Sisera have been processed and refined in the collective.With special instrumentation (drums, percussion, bass, Rhodes, guitar and three vocalists), we have achieved a special sound. Exciting, powerful music, sometimes urban and dark, sometimes happy and groovy, with influences from Europe, Africa and the Orient. World jazz, played in a wonderful, highly varied and exciting way. This music is inviting, not complicated or mentally taxing, but not pandering either. Ayé sets itself apart from the mainstream by means of creative compositions, clever arrangements and the excellent interaction within this high-calibre band. It is possible, then, for jazz to be so accessible. Or for world music to be so exciting and rich in variety!
